Chet Baker was an American jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist, and vocalist. He was known for his lyrical, melodic playing style and his ability to improvise. He was also known for his collaborations with saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and pianist Russ Freeman. Baker began his career as a jazz trumpeter in the early 1950s, and by the mid-1950s he had become one of the most popular jazz musicians in the world. He recorded several albums for Pacific Jazz Records, including Chet Baker Sings and Plays (1954), Chet Baker in New York (1956), and Chet Baker Plays the Best of Lerner and Loewe (1959). Baker's career was marked by personal struggles, including drug addiction and legal troubles. He died in 1988 at the age of 58. He was posthumously inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 2000.

When Mulligan was arrested in 1953, Chet led the group until 1955, when he went to Europe. He also sang on many records. In Europe he recorded with many musicians in different countries. His career was interrupted many times for personal problems with drugs and he was arrested many times for his addiction.
Chet Baker started his career in the late forties. He became famous with the Gerry Mulligan Quartet in 1952. His solo in "My funny valentine" is a classic of the west coast jazz in the fifties.
